Background: Since inception Jesus Care Ministries has been running a transit centre for vulnerable children without family protection and care. The centre is suited at JCM Head Office in Chamba Valley, Lusaka. The centre also welcomes children between 5 and 14 years brought by the Department of Social Welfare and Child Protection Unit under the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services. These children include street children and those with diverse background such as physically and emotionally abused, run away orphans forced into child labour and generally missing children in need of help. JCM usually its own internal resources to provide shelter, daily meals, educational support, psychosocial and spiritual counselling, parental care and child protection.

Achievement and Impact: The transit centre has contributed greatly towards effort of addressing the issues of street children in Lusaka district and across the country as some of the children are re-integrated back into their families across all the provinces of Zambia. Since 2000, over 2,330 street children and other vulnerable children passed through the transit centre rehabilitation process and re-integrated back into protective families.
